Militarized police action against OWS

I have long had a feeling that having a fascist sounding brand on a a federal department: homeland security, was a bad idea. ('Homeland'? Really? No American used that term prior to 2001, except to refer to the countries of origin of immigrants. 'Homeland' connotes an imperial power, distinguishing between far flung colonies and the domestic base of the empire. And 'security'? The concept involves degrees with no upper end, and to a nervous people, the idea of security trumps appeals to constitutional rights.)  So it is only predictable, if depressing, that Homeland Security is protecting the homeland against people who would like to stop the rich folks from buying the laws and lawmakers. there was widespread “mainstream media” suspicion when reports surfaced of coordinated national assaults against the economic-justice protests. Why would a public so used to illegal federal wiretapping and constant physical surveillance of U.S. Muslim communities and infiltration of anti-war groups in America be surprised by the fact that federal law enforcement agencies were working to stop nationwide protests against the political/economic regime? Isn’t that their job, to stop their corrupt regime from being toppled?

It is pretty much but not yet fully confirmed that DHS has been helping to coordinate the anti OWS police actions around the country, as Wonkette reported over a week ago. Unfortunately, some of the sourcing is iffy (the Examiner). We will find out more, and from better sources.(The National Union of Journalists and the Committee to Protect Journalists have filed FOIA requests to determine federal involvement in the anti OWS actions which seemed to single out journalists for special maltreatment.Unfortunately, we will all grow much older waiting for the feds to cough up the information.)

Why would the feds be eager to crack the heads of constitutionally protected demonstrations of the 99%. Wonkette agrees with Wolf in the Guardian that our elected representatives have every reason to side with the 1%. 

So, the fascist insect Peter King is launching DHS against #OWS because King and the rest of his crooked scum buddies in Congress will ultimately pay for their crimes, if the protests aren’t crushed now. Is that the theory? Sounds sane to us, although we don’t remember the part where Martha Stewart was guillotined.

I doubt that King and his fascist scum buddies are that worried about the sound of approaching tumbrils, but they must be worried about interrupting their increasingly rich gravy train, and I don't mean the dog food kind.
